Liberia is a post-conflict economy with significant natural resource potential. Key sectors include iron ore mining (ArcelorMittal operations at Yekepa), rubber plantations (Firestone), palm oil, gold, diamonds, and forestry. The country operates a dual-currency system (USD and LRD). Liberia has the world's second-largest ship registry by tonnage. Under President Joseph Boakai (elected 2023), the government is focused on anti-corruption, infrastructure, and economic recovery. Challenges include limited infrastructure, electricity access (28%), and post-Ebola economic recovery.
