About this Program

The Innovate Africa Challenge on AI for Climate Action is a Smart Africa initiative that supports the creation of more initiatives at the intersection of climate action and AI. Its objective is to democratize AI and promote local AI innovation for sustainable development across Smart Africa Alliance member states, with country focus on Ghana, Rwanda, and Kenya. The challenge fosters innovative AI uses to mitigate climate change impacts and support adaptation efforts, while strengthening the AI and start-up ecosystem. Thematic areas include Climate-Smart Agriculture, Disaster Preparedness & Management, and Natural Resource Management.

Funding support, mentorship, technical assistance, ecosystem visibility, integration into Smart Africa member state networks, exposure to climate-tech investors and ecosystem partners.

Eligibility

Legally incorporated/registered for-profit entity in any of the 39 Smart Africa Alliance member countries, operational for at least 6 months. Solution must be AI-enabled and address climate change-related thematic areas. Willing to operate the solution in at least one of the focus countries (Ghana, Kenya, or Rwanda).
