About Humayun Akhtar Khan

Humayun Akhtar Khan is a Pakistani politician and businessman with a background in actuarial science and business administration. He has served as Pakistan's Federal Minister for Commerce and Trade from 2002 to 2007 and as Chairman of the Board of Investment from 1997 to 1999. He has also been elected as a member of Pakistan's National Assembly for four consecutive terms between 1990 and 2007. In addition to his political career, Khan is the founder and chairman of the Institute for Policy Reform, a think tank established in 2014. He holds a Bachelor of Science from Government College, Lahore, and a Master's degree in Actuarial Science and Business Administration from the University of Manitoba, Canada. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, USA, and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries. In the business sector, Khan has been involved in several ventures. He, along with his brothers, acquired Riaz Bottlers, a PepsiCo franchise in Pakistan, in 1988. The company was later renamed Lotte Akhtar Beverages after a controlling stake was acquired by South Korean conglomerate Lotte Chilsung in 2018. The Akhtar brothers also own Tandlianwala Sugar Mills, one of the largest sugar producers in Pakistan, with a combined sugarcane crushing capacity of 48,000 tons per day across three mills. Additionally, Khan is the chairman of Akhtar Fuiou Technologies, an Agri-Fintech platform known for its smartphone application DigiTT+, which is licensed by the State Bank of Pakistan as an Electronic Money Institution. Khan's investment focus spans various asset classes, including private equity, venture capital, real estate, commodities, infrastructure, hedge funds, fixed income, distressed and special situations, ESG and impact investing, crypto, and collectibles & art.
