Anna Phosa Pig Farming
From 4 pigs to national supplier
About Anna Phosa Pig Farming
Anna Phosa Pig Farming is a South African black-owned commercial pig farming enterprise founded in 2004 by Anna Phosa, who started with just four pigs while also working in her family hardware store. Anna's big break came four years later in 2008 with a contract to supply pigs to South African grocer Pick n Pay. The farm has grown into a significant commercial operation in Gauteng Province, with Anna's husband and daughter (who has a degree in animal production) helping run the business, which also provides abattoir services and grows its own maize for livestock feed. Anna Phosa is a two-time winner of the South African Department of Agriculture's Female Farmer of the Year Award, and she gives back to her community by purchasing pigs from emerging black pig farmers in the region.
