Gallo Record Company is South Africa's oldest and most historically significant record label, founded in 1926 by Eric Gallo. Based in Johannesburg, Gallo has released music from legendary South African artists including Hugh Masekela, Miriam Makeba, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Lucky Dube, and countless others across jazz, mbaqanga, gospel, and popular music. The Gallo music archive is considered one of the most culturally important African music collections, documenting nearly a century of South African musical heritage.
