About Obriani Retail Chain
Obriani was one of South Africa's first black-owned, township-based fashion boutique chains, launched in the mid-1980s during apartheid-era South Africa. By the early 1990s, the company had grown from a single location in Pretoria to a chain of eight stores across two provinces, representing an early and influential example of black South African retail entrepreneurship in the face of apartheid economic restrictions. Obriani is part of the history of South African black township business.
