Attijariwafa Bank is the largest Moroccan commercial bank by tier 1 capital (approximately USD 6 billion in 2023) and one of the largest African banking groups by total assets (EUR 65 billion). Founded in 2004 from the merger of Banque Commerciale du Maroc and Wafabank, the group operates across 26 African countries with a particularly strong presence in WAEMU (CBAO Senegal, Côte dIvoire, Burkina Faso) and Maghreb. Attijariwafa offers SME and micro-enterprise lending alongside corporate banking, trade finance, and Islamic banking through its Dar Assafaa subsidiary. The group is one of the three Moroccan banks controlling 21.7% of the WAEMU banking market.
