Description
The European Investment Bank (EIB) is the long-term lending institution of the European Union and operates extensively across Africa via EIB Global. Recent African facilities include EUR 100 million SME facility with Ecobank Group, EUR 12.5 million for Ecobank Malawi agri-SME lending, EUR 15 million EFSD risk-sharing facility, and an EUR 85 million agreement with Bank of Industry Nigeria for cocoa and dairy value chains (at least 70% targeting these sectors). In March 2026, EIB pledged USD 1.15 billion for renewable energy projects across Sub-Saharan Africa. EIB has invested EUR 2.3 billion in Nigeria alone since 1978.
