Description

The Women Enterprise Fund (WEF) was established in 2007 under Legal Notice No. 147 to provide affordable loans to Kenyan women entrepreneurs. The fund operates through two channels: direct lending through constituency WEF committees (KES 50,000 to KES 500,000 for groups, up to KES 100,000 for individuals) and intermediary lending through partner financial institutions. Interest rate is 8% per annum on a reducing balance. Since inception, WEF has disbursed cumulative loans of KSh 21.6 billion to 120,624 self-help groups and 1,882,252 individual women. WEF has the highest recovery rate among Kenyan affirmative funds at 93.3%.
