Bill Roedy is an American business executive and angel investor known for his leadership in global media and entertainment. He served as the Chairman and CEO of MTV Networks International, overseeing a global operation of 200 channels and 20 brands, including MTV, Nickelodeon, and Comedy Central, in 200 countries, reaching two billion people. Under his leadership, MTV Networks expanded its presence to 162 countries, launching the most channels in television history. Roedy also founded and chaired the MTV Staying Alive Foundation, the longest multi-media campaign to fight the AIDS epidemic. Before his tenure at MTV, Roedy spent a decade at HBO, joining in 1979 as manager of national accounts and eventually serving as Vice President from 1983 to 1989. During that time, he played a key role in the network’s expansion alongside the nation’s top cable providers. After retiring from MTV Networks in 2011, Roedy has held business advisor and board roles at Lionsgate, Zumba Fitness, Moshi Monsters, Fitsmi, and private equity firm TowerBrook Capital Partners. He is also an executive producer of the film documentary 'Battle of amfAR' and the author of 'What Makes Business Rock,' which was recognized as CNBC's Best Book of Summer 2011. Roedy's accolades include an Emmy Founders Award, amfAR's Award of Courage, the Doctors of the World Leadership Award, and the U.N. Global Citizen of the Year Award. In 2015, he was inducted into the Cable Hall of Fame. In 2020, he was selected as a Distinguished Graduate of West Point, and in 2024, he was awarded the Winston Churchill Leadership Medal by America’s National Churchill Museum at Westminster College. He graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, qualified as Airborne Ranger, volunteered for duty in Vietnam, and commanded nuclear missile bases as part of NATO. He received the Bronze Star, Air Medal, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry (with Silver Star), and the Meritorious Service Medal for his military service.
