Mahesh Murthy

Mahesh Murthy is an Indian angel investor and entrepreneur based in Mumbai, India. He is the founder of Pinstorm, a digital marketing firm, and co-founder of Seedfund, an early-stage venture capital fund. Over his four-decade career, he has been involved in launching and growing brands like Pepsi, Microsoft, MTV, and Nike across various global markets. He has also been instrumental in launching Amazon.com and Yahoo! in the United States. In addition to his marketing ventures, Murthy has been active in the investment space. He co-founded Passionfund, an angel fund, in 2000, which funded companies such as Compassbox, Tulleeho, WebDunia, Geodesic, and EBSDirect. In 2006, he co-founded Seedfund, which invested in companies like RedBus, CarWale, SabKaDentist, Chumbak, and Sportskeeda. Seedfund was recognized as India's best VC fund for its first fund in 2009 and for its second fund in 2013. Murthy has also been involved in the space industry, investing in Exseed Space (now Satellize) in 2017, which launched India's first private satellite in 2019. He has been recognized for his contributions to marketing and investment, being chosen as a 'LinkedIn Power Profile' for India in 2012 and as a 'Top Writer' by Quora in 2014. He has also been a speaker at events like Gitex in Dubai, Nasscom in India, and Space Week in Hamburg. In 2018, Murthy faced legal challenges when a sexual harassment case was filed against him. The Mumbai Police registered a case under IPC sections 354 and 509 for outraging the modesty of a woman and an act intended to insult her modesty. Murthy denied all allegations, and the case was subsequently quashed by the Mumbai High Court. Despite this, the incident has been a notable part of his public life. Murthy continues to invest, market, and advise firms, while speaking at various events in the region. He is also an avid traveler, having visited over 110 countries and all seven continents, and enjoys photography in his spare time.
