Robert W. Roche is an American entrepreneur and philanthropist active in China, co-founder and Executive Chairman of Acorn International Inc., a media and branding direct sales company based in Shanghai. Acorn International, listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol ATV, specializes in developing, promoting, and selling a diverse portfolio of proprietary-branded products through direct sales platforms and a nationwide distribution network. The company has a strong track record of developing and promoting trusted brands in China, including its widely popular Babaka posture correction products, Youngleda oxygen generating products, Yierjian fitness products, and Aoya cosmetics. Acorn International has been focusing on e-commerce and digital media through three divisions: Product Division, Content Division, and Influencer Management Division. In addition to his role at Acorn International, Roche has been involved in various other business ventures and investments. He co-founded Oak Lawn Marketing in 1993, which became the largest infomercial company in Japan. In 2009, NTT DOCOMO, Japan's largest mobile phone operator, purchased a 51% stake in Oak Lawn Marketing. Roche also co-founded URBN Hotel in Shanghai, China's first carbon-neutral hotel, and Cachet Hotel Group, an international hospitality brand. His investment portfolio includes KraneShares, an asset management company, and FansTang, a China-focused media and entertainment company. Roche has been active in civic and philanthropic activities, serving as Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai and as a member of the U.S. Trade Representative's Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations. He supports various non-profit organizations dedicated to strengthening U.S.-Asia relations, including the U.S.-China Strong Foundation and the U.S. National Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo. Roche holds a bachelor's degree in Economics and Japanese Studies from Illinois State University and a J.D. from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. He is fluent in Japanese and proficient in Mandarin Chinese.
