Variant Investments is an employee-controlled SEC-registered alternative credit manager established in 2017. The firm specializes in uncorrelated income-generating private investments in niche markets, offering these strategies to investors through institutional closed-end interval funds. As of October 31, 2023, Variant's client assets have increased to more than $3 billion from $2.3 billion at year-end 2022. The firm's investment approach includes strategies such as specialty finance, litigation finance, royalties, and other income-generating opportunities outside the mainstream. The Variant Alternative Income Fund (NICHX), introduced on October 1, 2018, invests in these areas, while the Variant Impact Fund (IMPCX), launched on November 1, 2021, aims to provide a high level of current income and targets investment opportunities that support financial inclusion, equitable growth, and responsible consumption, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Variant Investments is managed by principals and co-founders Curtis Fintel, Robert Elsasser, and J.B. Hayes. The management team has expanded to include industry veteran Kristi Combs as Chief Operating Officer, along with other professionals in risk management, forensic audit, investor relations, and operations, reflecting the firm's growth and commitment to its investment strategies.
