Overview
The Jigawa State Ministry of Water Resources, under the Sustainable Power and Irrigation for Nigeria project, is inviting qualified consulting firms to express interest in providing consultancy services. The assignment is for the preparation of an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment and a Resettlement Action Plan for the Warwade irrigation scheme and associated dam infrastructure in Jigawa State. The financing is from the World Bank through the Federal Government of Nigeria.
Scope of Work
The overall objective is to prepare site specific including an Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs) and a Resettlement Action Plan for the proposed rehabilitation of the Warwade irrigation Schemes and dam infrastructure under SPIN. The instruments shall comply with: Nigerian EIA Act, World Bank Environmental and Social Framework (ESF), Applicable Environmental and Social Standards (ESS1, ESS10). The Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) aims to identify and assess the environmental and social risks and impacts of rehabilitating the Warwade Irrigation Scheme and improving the dam. It includes evaluating cumulative downstream impacts and recommending measures to avoid, minimize, mitigate, and manage adverse effects in line with Nigerian regulations and the World Bank's Environmental and Social Standards (ESS). The Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) aims to assess potential physical and economic displacement caused by the project and develop a comprehensive plan to address these impacts. It will identify affected assets, land, crops, livelihoods, and community resources, establish eligibility criteria, and provide compensation at full replacement cost together with livelihood restoration support for all Project Affected Persons (PAPs).
