Overview
IUCN Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office (ESARO) is procuring a consultancy to implement the Gender and Environmental and Social Management System (GESS) for the TWENDE project in Kenya. TWENDE (Towards Ending Drought Emergencies) is an ecosystem-based approach to drought resilience in Kenyan rangelands implemented by IUCN with partners. The GESS system ensures that project activities apply IUCN Environmental and Social Management Standards and gender mainstreaming requirements throughout implementation. The 12-month consultancy is valued at USD 10,000.
Scope of Work
Inception meeting and review of TWENDE project documents and IUCN ESMS requirements. Roll out GESS tools and procedures across project sites. Train project staff and partners on GESS application. Conduct gender and environmental and social screening of new activities. Monitor compliance and report issues. Support stakeholder engagement and grievance mechanism implementation. Final report on GESS implementation status and recommendations.
Requirements & Qualifications
Demonstrated experience in environmental and social management systems and gender mainstreaming for development projects. Familiarity with IUCN ESMS or comparable safeguards systems (World Bank, GEF, IFC). Experience in Kenyan drylands or rangelands an advantage. English required, Swahili desirable. IUCN Declaration of Undertaking.
Evaluation Criteria
IUCN standard consultancy evaluation: CV, technical proposal, financial proposal. Combined scoring within USD 10,000 ceiling.
