About Lewa Wildlife Conservancy
Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is a 62,000-acre private wildlife conservancy in Meru County, Kenya, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site (as part of the Mount Kenya World Heritage Site). Established in 1995 on land originally part of the Craig family's Lewa Downs cattle ranch, Lewa is a pioneering private conservancy that protects approximately 13% of Kenya's black rhino population and 14% of its white rhinos, as well as Grevy's zebra and other endangered species. The conservancy funds itself through luxury tourism, the annual Lewa Safari Marathon (one of the world's most unique fundraising runs), and philanthropic giving, with Prince William having served as a royal patron and having proposed to Kate Middleton at Lewa in 2010. Lewa hosts multiple luxury safari camps including Lewa Safari Camp, Lewa House, and Sirikoi.
