Nando's
Flame-grilled PERi-PERi from SA to the world
About Nando's
Nando's is one of South Africa's most globally successful indigenous restaurant exports, founded in 1987 in Rosettenville, Johannesburg, by Fernando Duarte and Robert (Robbie) Brozin. Named after Fernando Duarte (who introduced Brozin to the PERi-PERi chicken at a Portuguese restaurant called Chickenland), Nando's grew from a single Johannesburg restaurant into a global chain with over 1,200 outlets in 30+ countries including the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Ireland, the United States, and across Africa. The brand is famous for its flame-grilled PERi-PERi chicken (made with African Bird's Eye chillies from Mozambique), its cheeky and often politically-charged advertising campaigns, and its celebration of South African and Portuguese heritage. Nando's is majority-owned by the Enthoven family (Dick Enthoven) through Capricorn Investment Holdings.
