The Comoros is a small Indian Ocean archipelago nation with limited economic diversification. The economy depends on agriculture (vanilla, ylang-ylang essential oil, cloves), fishing, and remittances from the large diaspora (particularly in France). Comoros is one of the world's largest producers of ylang-ylang oil used in perfumery. Tourism potential exists but remains largely undeveloped. Challenges include political instability (over 20 coups or attempted coups since independence), inter-island rivalries, limited infrastructure, and isolation. The Comorian franc is pegged to the euro.
