About Gil Elbaz

An accomplished entrepreneur and angel investor specializing in technology and data-driven companies. Gil Elbaz co-founded Applied Semantics Inc. (ASI) in 1998, which developed contextual advertising products, including ASI's AdSense. Google acquired ASI in 2003, where Elbaz continued as Director of Engineering, working on AdSense and other products. In 2008, he founded Factual, a data company that enables developers, publishers, and advertisers to build highly relevant mobile experiences using location context. Elbaz is also the founder and chairman of the Common Crawl Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to democratizing access to web information. He serves on the board of the X Prize Foundation and is an active angel investor, with notable investments in companies such as Scopely, Kaggle, and Climate Corporation. He earned a B.S. with a double major in Engineering & Applied Science and Economics from the California Institute of Technology.
