About Access Holdings PLC
Access Holdings PLC is the holding company of Access Bank PLC, Nigeria's largest bank by total assets and customers, and one of Africa's largest commercial banks. The group is listed on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX: ACCESSCORP) and was established in 2022 as part of a group restructuring. Access Bank was originally founded in 1989 and transformed after Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede and Herbert Wigwe (1966-2024) acquired control in March 2002, turning it from a mid-sized bank into Nigeria's largest bank through a series of landmark acquisitions including Intercontinental Bank (2012) and Diamond Bank (2019). Following the tragic death of Herbert Wigwe in a helicopter accident in California on 9 February 2024, Bolaji Agbede was appointed Acting Group Managing Director/CEO. Access Holdings has operations in 22 countries across Africa, Europe, and Asia, and is strategically positioned as the most geographically diversified African banking group.
