About Ahwiaa Wood Carvers Village
Ahwiaa is a village in the Ashanti Region of Ghana approximately 8 kilometres from Kumasi, known as the traditional centre for Ashanti wood carving. Ahwiaa artisans produce iconic Ashanti wooden stools (asipim), drums, masks, fertility dolls (akuaba), and decorative carvings for Ashanti royalty, Ghanaian customers, and international art collectors. The village operates as a cultural tourism destination where visitors can watch master carvers at work and purchase authentic Ashanti wooden artefacts.
