About Bolgatanga Basket Weavers Cooperative
Bolgatanga basket weavers are renowned for producing the iconic Bolga baskets - hand-woven straw baskets made from dyed elephant grass, known worldwide as symbols of Ghanaian craftsmanship. Centred in Bolgatanga, Upper East Region, Ghana, the Bolga basket cluster represents thousands of women artisans (and some men) who weave baskets for domestic and international markets, including major exports to the United States, Europe, and Asia. Bolga baskets are stocked at international retailers including Pottery Barn, West Elm, and Williams-Sonoma.
