About Bonwire Kente Weavers Association

Bonwire is a village in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, approximately 18 kilometres from Kumasi, internationally renowned as the birthplace and traditional centre of Asante kente cloth weaving. Kente cloth, Ghana's most iconic textile, is hand-woven by Bonwire artisans on traditional horizontal looms using brightly coloured silk and cotton threads in intricate geometric patterns, each carrying symbolic meaning. The Bonwire Kente Weavers Association represents hundreds of kente weavers who supply Ashanti royalty, Ghanaian professionals, African-American diaspora customers, and international buyers with authentic handwoven kente cloth.
