About Guinness Nigeria PLC
Guinness Nigeria PLC is a leading Nigerian brewery and distiller listed on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX: GUINNESS) and historically a subsidiary of Diageo plc of the UK. Established in 1962 as a subsidiary of Arthur Guinness Son & Company (Dublin), Guinness Nigeria opened its first brewery in Ikeja, Lagos in 1962, making Nigeria the first country outside the British Isles to brew Guinness stout. The company brews the iconic Guinness Foreign Extra Stout (the world's highest-volume market for Guinness stout), Malta Guinness, Harp Lager, Smirnoff Ice, and Orijin bitters, among others. In July 2024, Diageo announced the sale of its majority stake in Guinness Nigeria to Tolaram (a Singapore-headquartered Nigerian conglomerate best known for Indomie Noodles), while Diageo retains the global rights to the Guinness brand and a long-term royalty/licensing arrangement with Tolaram for Guinness Nigeria.
