Connecting Africa to the world
About MainOne Cable Company
MainOne Cable Company is a leading West African submarine cable, data centre, and connectivity services provider, founded in 2010 by Funke Opeke (a Nigerian telecoms engineer and entrepreneur). MainOne landed West Africa's first privately-owned submarine cable in 2010, connecting Nigeria and Ghana to Portugal with 10 Tbps capacity, and has extended the cable to Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal, and other West African countries. The company also operates MDX-i data centre (the largest carrier-neutral data centre in West Africa). In 2022, Equinix (the global data centre giant) acquired MainOne for USD 320 million in one of the largest-ever Nigerian tech acquisitions. Funke Opeke has been widely celebrated as a pioneer of African digital infrastructure.
