MTN Nigeria Communications PLC is the largest telecommunications operator in Nigeria and the largest MTN Group subsidiary anywhere in the world. Established in February 2001 after winning one of Nigeria's first GSM licenses, MTN Nigeria is listed on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX: MTNN) and is one of the largest companies on the exchange by market capitalisation. The company serves over 80 million mobile subscribers and 15 million active data users across Nigeria, and operates Nigeria's largest mobile network infrastructure including over 25,000 cell sites. MTN Nigeria also operates MTN MoMo (mobile money) and MTN Fintech services alongside its core voice and data business. The company is majority-owned (approximately 76%) by MTN Group Limited of South Africa.
