Faraja is a Kenyan BNPL product launched in 2025 by Safaricom in partnership with fintech EDOMx. The product allows customers to pay later for purchases at merchants accepting Lipa na M-Pesa, with merchants receiving full payment upfront and customers repaying over time. Faraja represents the embedding of BNPL into mobile money ecosystems, reaching scale that standalone BNPL operators cannot match through the existing trusted M-Pesa channel.
