Constitution Hill Johannesburg

Constitution Hill is a heritage and democracy precinct located in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, South Africa, built on the site of the Old Fort Prison Complex where Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, and tens of thousands of political prisoners were held during the 20th century. Today Constitution Hill houses the Constitutional Court of South Africa (the country's highest court), museums commemorating the prison's history, public spaces for dialogue and reflection, and cultural programming. It is one of South Africa's most significant democratic heritage sites.
