Tugende

Tugende is a for-profit social enterprise established in 2012 in Uganda. The company utilizes asset financing, technology, and a customer-centric model to assist informal sector entrepreneurs, particularly motorcycle taxi drivers, in owning income-generating assets. By providing lease-to-own plans for motorcycles and other business assets, Tugende enables clients to build verifiable digital credit profiles and access future growth opportunities through its digital platform. Operating in Uganda and Kenya, Tugende has financed over 52,000 clients and employs more than 800 full-time staff. The company's mission is to help people help themselves by addressing the credit gap for small businesses in Africa and fostering economic independence among micro-entrepreneurs.
