Helton Traders Limited, founded by Hellen Munyasa in 2021, is a Ugandan company dedicated to recycling plastic waste into sustainable polyester sewing threads. By collecting post-consumer plastic bottles, the company not only reduces environmental pollution but also addresses the shortage of locally produced sewing threads in Uganda. This initiative supports the local textile industry, reduces import dependency, and creates employment opportunities, particularly for women and youth. Helton Traders Limited has received investments and accelerator support to scale production and create sustainable impact through circular economy solutions in East Africa. The company has recycled over 750 tons of plastic waste and created jobs for over 100 women and youth, 14 full-time facility workers, and 4 volunteers. Their threads are 22% cheaper and 10 times faster to access than imported alternatives, contributing to the growth of the local textile industry and promoting environmental sustainability.
