ICEA Lion Group

ICEA Lion Group is one of East Africa's leading financial services groups, offering life and general insurance, asset management, and pension administration across Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. The group was formed in 2011 through the merger of Insurance Company of East Africa (ICEA, founded 1964) and Lion of Kenya Insurance (founded 1973), both historically part of the First Chartered Securities group founded in 1974 by the late former Central Bank of Kenya Governor Philip Ndegwa. ICEA Lion is now controlled by the Ndegwa family (with James Ndegwa as Chairman and Andrew Ndegwa as Executive Director). The group also holds a 25% stake in NIC Bank (now merged into NCBA Group).
