About Kakuzi PLC

Kakuzi PLC is a listed Kenyan agricultural company dual-listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange and the London Stock Exchange, engaged in the cultivation, processing, and marketing of avocados, blueberries, macadamia nuts, tea, livestock, and commercial forestry. Founded in 1906 through the agricultural venture of Donald Farquharson Seth-Smith (an Oxford graduate and distinguished athlete), Kakuzi is the largest producer of avocados in East Africa, exporting approximately 45% of Kenya's total avocado volume. The company operates in two locations: its main estate and head office in Makuyu (Murang'a County) and its tea estates in Nandi Hills. Its avocado packhouse is FSSC 22000 certified; its production holds GlobalG.A.P, GRASP, SPRING, Halal, SMETA, and Rainforest Alliance certifications. The Macadamia Processing Plant has an installed capacity of 2,000 tons of saleable kernel, making it one of the largest in East Africa. In 2021 Kakuzi became the first corporate in Sub-Saharan Africa to establish an Independent Human Rights Advisory Committee, chaired by former Attorney General Prof. Githu Muigai. The company is 34.54% owned by Kenyan businessman John Kimani.
