Standard Group PLC is one of Kenya's leading multi-media organisations, operating the country's oldest newspaper (The Standard, established in 1902 by Indian immigrant businessman Alibhai Mulla Jeevanjee as "The African Standard") alongside a portfolio of television, radio, digital, and outdoor advertising platforms. The Group is listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange under the ticker SGL and is controlled through S.N.G. Holdings Limited, ultimately linked to the Moi family (the late President Daniel arap Moi and his son Senator Gideon Moi). The Standard newspaper was acquired by the UK-based Lonrho Group in 1963 just before Kenyan independence, sold back to Kenyan investors in 1995, and re-branded from East African Standard to The Standard in 2004. Standard Group's media portfolio includes: The Standard daily newspaper, The Nairobian weekly tabloid, Kenya Television Network (KTN Home, acquired 1989 as Kenya's first private TV station), KTN News (24-hour news), Radio Maisha, Spice FM, Vybes Radio, KTN Burudani, KTN Farmers TV, Standard Digital, and Think Outdoor (billboard advertising).
