Grameen-Jameel Microfinance Limited is a social business established in 2007 as a joint venture between Grameen Foundation and Abdul Latif Jameel Group. The company aims to alleviate poverty in the Arab World by forming strategic partnerships with microfinance institutions and providing technical and financing support. It operates as a social business, reinvesting profits to serve more poor people in the MENA region. The company's mission is to enhance the microfinance sector's ability to extend its outreach and impact on the poor, especially women, by providing financial and non-financial products and services to microfinance institutions in the MENA and Turkey region. Grameen-Jameel is incorporated in Cyprus and headquartered in Dubai's International Humanitarian City. As of December 2013, Grameen-Jameel facilitated more than USD 65 million in financing, reaching over 2.2 million clients through partner institutions across 10 countries in the MENA region and Turkey. The company is managed by Zaher Al Munajjed, who also serves as a senior advisor to Mohammed Abdul Latif Jameel, President of the ALJ Group in Saudi Arabia. Al Munajjed has over 25 years of international business experience and has played a key role in developing vocational training and microfinance programs in the region.
