About Nigerian Breweries PLC
Nigerian Breweries PLC is the largest and oldest brewing company in Nigeria, listed on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX: NB) and majority-owned by Heineken N.V. of the Netherlands. The company was incorporated on 16 November 1946 as Nigerian Brewery Limited and brewed its first bottle of STAR lager beer in June 1949 at the Iganmu brewery in Lagos. The company now operates eleven breweries across Nigeria (in Lagos, Aba, Kaduna, Ibadan, Enugu, Awo-Omamma, Ama, and others) and two malting plants, producing brands including Star Lager, Gulder, Heineken, Maltina (Nigeria's leading malt drink), Amstel Malta, Legend Extra Stout, Fayrouz, Tiger, Desperados, Goldberg, Life Continental, and Williams Dark Ale. In March 2024, Nigerian Breweries completed a merger with Distell Wines and Spirits Nigeria. Nigerian Breweries is one of the largest taxpayers and private-sector employers in Nigeria.
