About FMO Ventures Program

The FMO Ventures Program is a venture capital initiative of the Dutch development bank FMO, focusing on early-stage, tech-enabled companies and venture capital funds in emerging markets. The program has a budget of €200 million, supported by contributions from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands and a guarantee from the European Union, with a four-year investment period. Its geographical focus includes Africa, the European Neighbourhood, and parts of Asia. The program targets sectors such as Fintech, Energy Access, and Agritech, investing directly in start-ups and scale-ups, as well as indirectly in venture capital funds. Investments are made alongside local, regional, or international lead investors, with a preference for co-investment opportunities. The program offers products like equity, convertible notes, and technical assistance, complementing FMO's broader financing options. In addition to financial support, the FMO Ventures Program provides a Technical Assistance Facility to enhance investees' business operations and promote inclusive business models. This facility includes components like Investee Strengthening, Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Building, and Community Engagement, aiming to foster a vibrant start-up environment in the regions where the program invests.
